Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey said former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni strategically reads the game slightly better than Australia’s World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting.
Micheal Hussey had also played under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in Chennai Super Kings in IPL. He had an opportunity to play under the greatest captains of the game- MS Dhoni and Ricky Ponting.
Recently, Micheal Hussey has shared about differences and similarities between MS Dhoni and Ricky Ponting’s captaincy style in an interview with Raunak Kapoor on YouTube.
Hussey said both the skippers Dhoni and Ponting lead from the front and back their players to the hilt and that is the most common thing between them.
“Ricky is just so driven and so competitive in everything that he does,” He said to Raunak Kapoor on YouTube chat.
Hussey said that if they had the worst nets in the world to practice on, Pointing would be the first one into the nets and show that it’s okay. Ponting really backed his players and was leading from the front.
Hussey had played under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2013 and then later in 2015 and has built many unforgettable partnerships with former Indian captain.
Hussey said he thinks MS Dhoni is a better tactician than Ricky Ponting and that he admires the former Indian captain’s ability to handle pressure.
“MS is a lot calmer. A lot more measured. And I would say he strategically reads the game slightly better than Ricky. Ricky was a good tactician as well. Fantastic, but the way MS makes some moves out there in the field, I’ll be sort of thinking “where’s he going with this?” Inevitably it might work. How did this come from? He just backs his gut feel. Two different captains but both very effective in their own ways,” added Husssey.
Hussey also said about the strength of Dhoni that MSD has a great ability to take the pressure off players, specially young Indian players.
Last month, Hussey said former Indian captain MS Dhoni is the greatest finisher of the game ever.
Micheal Hussey was also a part of the Australia squad which won ICC trophies like World Cup 2007, Champions Trophy of 2006 and 2009 under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting.
