Lockdown in UP may extend after 14 April as coronavirus cases are increasing

Avnish Kumar Awasthi, the additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Uttar Pradesh has said that it is premature right now to say whether the lockdown will open after the 14th of April. He said the number of affected is rising especially those related to the Tablighi Jamaat. 
The total number of coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh has crossed 300 mark.
Out of total 305 cases, 159 cases are of Tablighi Jamaat attendees and that is more than 50% of total cases in the state.

Awasthi mentioned that if the lockdown was removed prematurely it would defeat the purpose of the 21-day lockdown and thwart all attempts so far to stop the epidemic, although he said there was no sign of community spread of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh.
He claimed that 1,600 Tablighi Jamaat attendees have been identified so far in the state, and more than 1,200 people are under quarantine. Officials are in the process of tracking the remaining Tablighi attendees for screening and quarantining. The government has urged them to come forward voluntarily in the health interests of their families.
