High chances of lockdown extension, seven CM request for the same
Union Ministers had a discussion on lockdown in a meeting on tuesday. Chief ministers of many states do not want to lose the benefit of limiting the spread of deadly virus infection from lockdown. Therefore, seven states are in favor of extending the lockdown.
Maharashtra is the worst-affected state with over 1,000 coronavirus cases. Uddhav Thackeray has hinted at withdrawal of lockdown but in a phased manner. Mumbai itself has reported over 100 cases in the last 24 hours taking the Mumbai toll to over 640 cases.
Uttar Pradesh is also in favor of extending the lockdown. 53 percent of the total number of cases are related to the Tablighi Jamaat gathering. Jamaat has become a big reason, a big headache for the UP government as the number of cases are increasing day by day.
Madhya Pradesh which has over 200 coronavirus positive cases is also ready to extend the
Lockdown. According to Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the life of common people is more important. We can endure the lockdown. We will work on the economic crisis later. But if people die, how will we bring them back?
Telangana CM has already requested PM Modi to do the same. Telangana is reporting over 360 cases and 47 % cases are linked to Tablighi Markaz.
Apart from this, CM of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also have requested to extend the lockdown.
While the central government has not officially declared its decision yet but chances are high that lockdown can be extended after 14th April. Final decision is expected to be made on 13th April.
